2048 Elections
2048. The avatar voting system has been in operation for 6 years now. Most everyday micro-decisions are executed autonomously. On my street, a new pedestrian crossing is just being marked down to facilitate access for residents. The acceptability percentage was 74% and the position was determined by arithmetic mean.
Of course, no one wasted time to interrupt their schedule to choose such a banality. It was automatic. And the original proposal also belonged to an avatar, but not to any of the neighbors’, but to a simple local civic generator. Then, by evaluating our preference profiles, consensus was reached. It took less than a second.
For decisions with greater impact, the legal window of 24 hours is kept, of course. Thus, whoever wants, has the freedom to perform a traditional vote. Personally, I don’t know if it is correct that one traditional vote is equivalent to 10 of the avatars’. But, truth be told, you have a large majority who will either way choose to let their avatar vote. Like they say — convenience. So, maybe this balances out the situation.
I, for one, always vote myself in the presidential and mayoral elections. Even if there are many who say that all these have become purely symbolic by now. But I like the tradition. I do admit that I don’t care about the rest of the elections. I don’t care so much what color the fence in front of my building is painted or how many trees are planted in the new park. That’s what I have the avatar for.
I don’t even get involved when taxes are voted. I am absolutely amazed by the specialization questionnaire, and without it, one cannot vote. They are not difficult questions, but even so, it’s quite a challenge to bring your concordance to 92%, like I managed to. It’s interesting how it knows how to vote even if at no stage of the customization did I actually express my opinion about economy. All I did was go through the simulations.
Apparently, I am economically on the center-left because I chose to share resources with someone who was clearly going to die. Yes, I didn’t do very well, I only got to the 5th day of the simulation. Perhaps the value of the vote should also be given by this — theoretically we want more decision-making power for those who are able to maintain the collective level as high as possible, for as long as possible. Still, it’s curious — will one day only avatars vote? After all, they know best: they have all our personality traits but always act completely logically. There used to be a saying: “It doesn’t matter who votes, it matters who counts the votes”. How about: “No one counts the votes anymore, it only counts who votes”
